IHOP UHOP WIIHOP

IHOP (of pancake fame) is suing IHOP (of prayer fame) saying the use of the acronym "IHOP" should not be used by the International House of Prayer to take advantage of the International House of Pancakes famous name and acronym. It is a sticky situation, as IHOP pancakes claims some branches of the IHOP church even serve food. Imagine going out to early breakfast at an IHOP only to find oneself sitting in a pew, because your GPS suggested this address for breakfast!

Curious Raccoon

This young Raccoon spotted me shortly after I took the first photo this morning. It appeared to want to go down the side of the deck, but changed it's mind and watched me as I made these photos. In the past other raccoons have immediately scurried away when they saw me, sometimes not even giving me a chance to shoot a photo. This one stayed around a little over three minutes. I even slid open the sliding door so I did not have to shoot through the glass and it was not frightened.

I'll Have a Cookie - Add Some Bacon Please!

Yesterday a friend and I went to a Lenny's Sub Shop in our area. This was our first time to eat there. We ordered a couple of sandwich combos. While waiting we read a menu and found what we thought was an interesting item in the "Other Stuff" area.

There has been quite a bacon craze in recent times. I have read on the net stories about a "Bacon Explosion", a BBQ pork dish wrapped with bacon that also includes a filling of spiced sausage and crumbled bacon. Recently in our area there was a "Bacon Eating Contest". And doing a search on the net, I found a story that said Tina Fey's daughter wants to be a "Bacon Eating Robot" for Halloween. I am not even going to mention Kevin Bacon....OOPS, I just did.

Take a look at what you can get on your "Fresh Baked Cookie" at Lenny's. It might be good!

We asked a worker at Lenny's about the "Add Bacon" item and he seemed to see the humor, but added he would tell the boss and maybe the boss would consider putting the "add bacon" line somewhere else on the menu.
Oh, by the way the sandwiches were quite good...without bacon...

Sign of the Times

I have located some "lost in the archives" original Sign of the Times images made for The New Times alternative paper in Kansas City, Mo. I had a part time gig with the paper in the early 1990's. I had done some work for The Pitch for about a month and was called to a meeting by the editor at the time, Hearne Christopher, later to write a gossip column for the KC Star. Anyway, Hearne had decided to quit The Pitch and start his own alternative paper. I was one of several staffers who went along for the ride.
I had an idea for a photo column for The New Times and wanted to call it "Sign of the Times. Hearne agreed it would work. I would look for one interesting photo each week to run on the editorial page. Some of the images had signs in them, but it didn't have to, anything interesting and topical at the time could be used. The first two shown here are mock-up's to show how it would look in the paper. I saved many of these for my archives along with the original photo prints.

Greaserama 2010 at the Boulevard Drive-In Theatre

I attended the Greaserama event yesterday in KC. This is one of the most fun/interesting "car" shows ever and my second time to be at a Greaserama. Most of the vehicles are in the "rat-rod" category, rusty and old looking. Some participants dress in 1950's style, other eras or just plain unusual clothing. This year there was even a Photobooth set up. My favorite vehicle was a Russian made Ural motorcycle with side-car. The owner was in the military in Iraq and acquired it there. He brought it into the US with considerable difficulty. He told me that Saddam Hussein used them in his military.

That Raccoon is Back

Two raccoons appeared on my deck this morning about 6am. It was dark and raining. They came down from the roof onto the deck with a loud thud. By the time I got a camera and started taking photos one had already left the deck. The other one seemed a bit confused and walked the rail a couple of times. Back on July 25 2010, I posted images made with a critter cam of a raccoon on my deck (see archives). Maybe one of them today was the same raccoon from July, maybe not!

Shooting flash photos through a glass door made reflections in some images.
